When you create a question, you will see the field ‘Label’. Here you can enter a characteristic of the question that will be shown in the result files. If you leave the 'Label' field empty, the question number will be shown in the result files.
You can also add labels to answer options. In addition, for table questions, you can add an answer label to each sub-question.
Labels are required for the digital accessibility of the survey. The labels are read aloud by screen-reading software.
Creating labels
Under the question number, fill in a characteristic in the ‘Label’ field;
Go to the answer options and click the three dots next to an answer;
Enter a characteristic in the ‘Label’ field for the answer option;
Click ‘Next’.
Creating labels for table questions
For table questions, you must first fill in the sub-questions and answers and then save the question before you can add labels. After that, you can follow the same steps as above to create labels.
Requirements for label names
A label must meet several requirements to ensure result files remain readable and can be correctly imported into SPSS:
Start the label name with a letter;
Use an underscore (_) instead of spaces;
Do not use special characters such as &, :, /, or ;.
Showing answer labels in result files
Answer labels are not displayed by default in export files. To include answer labels in the result files, go to 'Survey', 'Settings', and 'SPSS' in the main menu. Under 'Export answers in SPSS as:' and 'Export answers in CSV as:', select the option 'Answer label'. Read more information about all research settings.
