To ensure your questionnaire is accessible to everyone, it is important that it complies with the WCAG guidelines. Read more about WCAG. Within Crowdtech Survey, there are various settings and question types that require extra attention to meet the WCAG guidelines. Below you will find these points of attention.
Autonext
This feature always makes a questionnaire non-WCAG-compliant. The autonext function is disabled by default.
Countdown timer
This function does not meet the WCAG guidelines if:
the countdown clock is hidden, or
the setting “automatically proceed to the next question” is enabled.
Swipe question
The default settings for this question type are not WCAG-compliant because the autonext function is enabled by default.
Image and hotspot questions
These questions are fully operable with a keyboard. However, because they are highly visual, they may be less suitable for respondents relying on screen readers.
External redirect question
Unexpectedly redirecting respondents to an external website is not in line with the WCAG guidelines.
Media
You are responsible for making media content within your questionnaire accessible. This includes:
Adding descriptive alt text to images
Providing transcripts for audio clips
Adding audio descriptions to videos without sound
Including both subtitles and transcripts for videos with sound
Layout settings
You choose fonts, colors, and sizes yourself. Always ensure sufficient contrast between text and background.
Content
The content of the questionnaire must meet WCAG guidelines. Consider the following:
Use B1-level language to ensure content is understandable to a broad audience
Avoid vague or ambiguous terms
Provide context in links (e.g., not “click here”, but “read more about...”)
Use active voice (“You can choose” instead of “It can be chosen”)
Explain complex terms with examples
Use terms and concepts consistently
Only use semantic HTML when using HTML. Read more about possible HTML tags.
Background images and colors
Backgrounds must not interfere with text readability. Due to responsive design and scalable text, the exact text position may vary.
Do not use text as part of background images; background images are decorative only
